Luc Guillaume, the passionate
One can never say enough about the happiness of being able to fill one's existence with one's passion. Luc Guillaume from Luxembourg has this privilege. Itinerary of a spoiled man.
Sir, can you tell us about your background?
My passion for wood goes back a long way. From the age of 7 or 8, I was irremediably attracted by the material and wanted to make it my profession. At the age of 15, when it came to choosing my training, I was advised against this sector which was not at all promising at the time. In 5 minutes, my dreams were shattered. But that wasn't the end of the love story between wood and me: 32 years ago, I was lucky enough to join the commune of Bascharage. Since then, I have been in charge of wood-related projects and little by little, over the years, I have built up a worthy workshop for the town, equipped, among other things, with woodworking machines. But as it's a passion, the first thing I do in the evening is to go to my own workshop (laughs).
Tell us more!
In each of the houses where I have lived, I have set up a workshop that allows me to indulge my passion. It's like breathing, it's indispensable to me. Moreover, thanks to all these years of working with wood, I have been able to validate my knowledge with a certificate of professional aptitude in carpentry. I even have a laser machine for cutting wood. For Valentine's Day, I gave my wife a laser-cut flower (smiles). My great pride is that my work is recognized in my country. For example, I have supplied pens for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs donates my pens abroad.
What are the objects you shape?
Mainly pens, fountain pens, pepper mills and bottle openers. I would like to have time to create new objects but the demand is not weakening, which leaves me little time to imagine new things (smiles). I sometimes combine wood (always of European origin and for some products, coming from our Mullerthal) with titanium or glass.
Anyway, I have the chance to exercise my passion and not a day goes by without me caressing the wood.
